Das Keyboard Carrying Case

A hand made minimal bamboo carrying custom made for my Das keyboard

I occasionally tote my Das keyboard between work and home, and I don’t really like the idea of stuffing the keyboard into my backpack for fear of breaking off one of the keys. With the assistance of my dad, who’s a fantastic woodworker, I designed and built a carrying case just for this purpose.

The lid doesn’t have a latch to hold it in place; I opted for magnets instead. Magnets are much cleaner looking than an external latch. There are five magnets on the lid and five on the base. Their combined strength is enough to hold the lid shut even holding the case upside down.

Foam strips on the lid and along the top hold the keyboard in place and prevent it from rattling during transport. The strips are held in place with double sided carpet tape. The box is an exact fit side to side, so no padding was needed there.

Preserving the look of the bamboo was important to me, so I used a clear polyurethane finish inside and out.
